WHO ARE WE?

We are a Non-Government Organization subsidized by the Hong Kong Government. We have been providing non-religious service to South Asian families since 2004 with a team of professional social workers. In the future, we strive to continue our services to meet the needs of South Asian families in enhancing family relationship, fostering children’s development and empowering their rights in social resources.

Service Target:

Ethnic Minorities families with children aged 0 – 9 years old who are residing in Hong Kong

Service Boundary:

Territory-wide

How to apply for/withdraw service?

  – Referral by social workers of Integrated Family Service Centres (IFSCs), Medical Social Service Units (MSSUs), schools and other social welfare units  providing services for the EM communities,

  – *Income proof was required

  – Upon request of applicants, withdrawal of service may be arranged through social worker in charge of the service.

Home Safety Assessment and Enhancement Scheme:

  • For low income families. Subsidy will be provided.
  • Home Safety Assessment by social worker to assess home safety and identify environmental hazards.
  • A home safety enhancement plan to improve safety in applicant’s home will be formulated, with recommendation on the specific areas based on the assessment result.
  • Maximum subsidy of $2,000 for each family to purchase safety items such as window guards, safety gates, furniture corner cushions, safety locks for cabinets and drawers, electric plugs and extension units, etc., so as to improve overall household safety for children.
  • Recommendation and tips will be given to participating families after installment .
  • Income and asset test would be conducted.

*Low income families with monthly income and asset not exceeding the income and asset limits of

–      1/ The Public Rental Housing application or

–      2/ Recipients of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance or

–      3/ Recipients of School Textbook Assistance Scheme would be eligible for the scheme.

Home Safety and Maintenance Class for Parents:

  • A tailor-made culturally sensitive training about home safety for Ethnic Minorities parents, equipping them the knowledge and skills to prevent child injury.
  • Parents learn skills to prevent and handle child injury.
  • Free of charge

 Community Education Program:

Proactive community outreaching and community education programs to reach out the Ethnic Minorities families to Minorities families to spread the message of home safety and arouse the awareness on child safety issues.

    • Injury is a major child killer. Many children are killed or disabled by injuries every year.*
    • Statistics show that the home is the most common place of injury in children aged 0 to 5 years.
    • Common injuries for children includes Fall, Suffocation, Finger-pinching, Scalds or burns, etc.
    • Children aged 5 or below may not understand or remember what is dangerous. Parents should not over-estimate their ability.
    • Most of the injuries are avoidable. It mainly depends on parents awareness and actions to protect the kids.
